The School of Calligraphy and Ornamentation in Fujairah proudly announces the launch of its latest exhibition, “Inspired from Manuscripts,” under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. The launch event took place on September 10, 2023, with His Highness in attendance, celebrating the intersection of tradition and contemporary artistry. This captivating exhibition is currently on display at Al Taif Mall and will run until October 21, 2023
It features five dedicated sections: Calligraphy, Manuscripts, Miniature, Illumination, and Geometry. Each section showcases exceptional pieces from both local and international artists, highlighting the diversity and richness of Islamic art. A standout feature of the exhibition is the Manuscripts section, which includes very rare manuscripts generously loaned by His Highness and manuscripts from Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage. These historical pieces provide a unique glimpse into the craftsmanship and cultural significance of manuscript art.
The exhibition proudly features 38 talented artists from across the UAE, as well as from Egypt, the UK, Spain, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Belarus, and Iraq. Through this collection, these artists pay homage to the meticulous techniques, vibrant colors, and intricate patterns that define this tradition, while also infusing their contemporary perspectives. This exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring relevance of manuscript arts and their ongoing influence on modern artistic practices
In addition to the stunning artwork, visitors can engage in interactive experiences, including an immersive room that transports them to the world of botanical patterns as a reminder of paradise and a The “Sketchbook Activity” invites participants to engage in creative expression through an expansive experience empowered by artificial intelligence. Visitors can select and color shapes of their choice using available tools. Once they’ve completed their designs, these colored shapes are transformed into stunning animations displayed on screens in vibrant hues. This dynamic interaction allows attendees to see their creations come to life as animated art, deepening their appreciation for the aesthetics of traditional art while showcasing how it can seamlessly blend with modern technology
Finally, the exhibition features a “Write Your Name” activity. Participants simply type in their names, and the AI generates a beautifully crafted version in elegant Thuluth calligraphy. This process not only highlights the intricate beauty of traditional Arabic script but also allows visitors to take home a personalized memento.
