His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi witnesses the closing of the second edition of the “Fujairah International Conference for Calligraphy and Ornamentation” and praises its importance in reviving Islamic arts

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, affirmed the importance of reviving Islamic arts and showcasing their aesthetics within human heritage, and presenting the most important artistic and academic experiences from around the world.

This came during His Highness's attendance at the closing of the second session of the Fujairah International Conference on Calligraphy and Ornamentation, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fujairah hotel, accompanied by Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, His Highness's son.

His Highness pointed out the attention given by the Fujairah government, led by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, to cultural and artistic projects that contribute to the dissemination of Arabic Islamic arts in all their forms, and their preservation through their presence in various forms of expression, and supporting the vision and orientations of the UAE in the culture and arts sector.

His Highness visited the art exhibition accompanying the conference, featuring works by professors and artists in the field of calligraphy and ornamentation from various countries around the world.

As His Highness witnessed, a lecture entitled: “Unveiling Manuscript Heritage in Southern Arabia”, delivered by Dr. Michael Erdman, Head of Middle East and Central Asia Collections at the British Library in London.

Dr. Israa Al-Hammal, Director of the Calligraphy and Ornamentation School in Fujairah, said in her speech during the closing ceremony of the conference, that this year's conference sessions were varied to be a dialogue space for exchanging ideas and knowledge, enriching the field of Islamic arts in its various forms and contributing to the development of the culture and arts sector globally.

His Highness honoured the speakers at the conference, which saw the participation of an elite group of academic and artistic institutions from around the world, such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Spain, Turkey, Japan, and Pakistan, alongside Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, and Lebanon.

During its convention on the 18th and 19th of October, the conference included 18 specialised research papers that discussed pivotal issues related to the history, philosophy and aesthetics of Islamic arts. The conference also featured a contemporary presentation through the lecture “From Sacred Geometry to Generative Code,” which offered a modern approach to integrating Islamic decorative elements with digital design tools.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, His Excellency Hamdan Karam, Director of the Private Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, and a number of directors and officials in the Emirate of Fujairah.
