In cooperation with Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Istanbul, this workshop provides practical experience in the art of making traditional cylindrical kobor, a historical vessel used for both practical and decorative purposes. The artist guides participants step-by-step through all stages of the process, from structural construction to the final aesthetic touches, using simple materials and traditional contemporary techniques.
This workshop extends over two consecutive days, and attendance on both days is required to successfully complete the work.

By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a sturdy and distinctive cylindrical kobo that reflects their personal style. They will have learned how to cut and shape thick cardboard, reinforce the structure, choose covering materials, add floral or geometric motifs, and seal the piece with a protective layer of varnish.

Instructor:
Professor Yilös Nihas is a Turkish artist specialising in bookbinding and miniature art. She holds a BA from Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University in Istanbul. Her work combines traditional crafts with the needs of contemporary heritage preservation. In this workshop, participants learn step-by-step how to make a traditional cylindrical case (kubur) for manuscripts using materials such as marbled paper, fabric, leather, and decorated papers, finishing with a protective layer of varnish.
