As part of its participation in the Sikka Art Festival, the School of Calligraphy and Ornamentation presented a specialised workshop titled “Diwani Calligraphy Applications,” led by Mr. Mohammed Al Tamimi. The session attracted strong attendance and active engagement from calligraphy enthusiasts.
The workshop introduced participants to the defining characteristics of Diwani script, highlighting its flowing letterforms, balanced compositions, and distinctive aesthetic rhythm. Attendees explored the structural principles of the script and examined how Diwani can be adapted within contemporary artistic contexts.

The session included practical exercises, allowing participants to write and compose phrases under direct guidance. Emphasis was placed on proportion, pen angle control, and spatial balance between letters. This hands-on approach provided deeper insight into the internal structure of Diwani script and its expressive potential.
The workshop reflects the School’s ongoing commitment to promoting Arabic calligraphy and strengthening public engagement with classical Islamic art forms through accessible and practice-based platforms.
