Learn how to draw and paint elements of nature with realistic accuracy using watercolor, under the guidance of internationally acclaimed artist Shevaun Doherty.

This two-month course is inspired by nature and focuses on teaching detailed, realistic drawing and colouring techniques. Through the fundamental elements of art— line, shadow, shape, colour, texture, and composition— the course takes participants step by step from an initial sketch to a completed painting.

You will receive clear and detailed explanations of basic drawing and colouring techniques, along with individualised guidance to help you develop your personal artistic style.

The course is led by artist Siobhán Doherty, an experienced artist who provides lessons through demonstrations and one-to-one support. This course is suitable for beginners, as well as those looking to improve their skills in a supportive learning environment focused on developing artistic abilities.

Learning Objectives:

    • Introduction to artistic tools and materials (pencils, brushes, paper, and watercolours)
    • Accurate drawing from nature (through direct observation)
    • Outdoor perspective – how to create depth and contrast
    • Shadow studies using watercolours
    • Watercolour techniques:
      •   Wet-in-wet colouring
      •  Wet-on-dry colouring
      • Drawing on glass

    • Precise colour mixing
    • Depicting texture and natural details
    • Cultivating the habit of artistic journaling in a sketchbook
    • Creating a study page
    • Finishing and presenting artwork professionally

Course Schedule and Timings:

Sunday: 10:30 am until 1:30 pm- – once weekly
Number of days: 5 teaching days
Total hours: 15 instructional hours
20 dirhams per hour – Total: 300 dirhams for the full course

Monday and Wednesday: 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm – twice weekly
Number of days: 12 teaching days
Total hours: 24 instructional hours
20 dirhams per hour – Total: 400 dirhams for the full course

Certificate

Please note that participants must attend at least 90% of the course hours to receive a certificate of attendance.

Instructor’s Biography: Siobhán Doherty

Siobhán Doherty is an Irish artist specialising in botanical and nature art. She currently serves as the President of the Society of Botanical Artists.

An award-winning artist, she has exhibited her work both in Ireland and internationally, including at the National Irish Exhibition in 2020. Her works are part of the National Irish Collection at the Crawford Gallery in Cork and the Natural History Museum in Dublin.

Siobhán considers herself a "visual storyteller," using her artistic skills to raise awareness about environmental conservation issues.
Notable Works:

  • Designing four sets of Irish national postage stamps featuring flowers and animals

  • Creating illustrations for the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan campaign

Siobhán continues to conduct workshops and art courses worldwide, combining inspiration and mastery in her teaching approach.
