About: Nature Illustrations

This course is a wonderful introduction to the art of natural illustrations, offering you the chance to explore the beauty of the natural world through sketching and painting. Guided by a very skilled illustrator, you’ll learn techniques for capturing intricate details of plants, flowers, and wildlife. Each week, you’ll work on illustrating a new subject, gradually building your skills until you’re ready to create a complete composition inspired by the wonders of nature.

  • Watercolour techniques- washes, glazes, and dry brush
  • Colour theory- matching, mixing, and layering
  • Tonal awareness

  • Composition and design
  • Basic botany

Tutor’s Biography: Shevaun Doherty

Shevaun Doherty is an Irish botanical and nature artist, and current President of Society of Botanical Artists.

An award-winning artist, she exhibits regularly in Ireland and overseas, including the National Gallery Ireland 2020. Her work is part of the Irish National collection- Crawford Gallery, Cork and Natural History Museum, Dublin. She considers herself a visual storyteller, using her skills to raise awareness about conservation. She has designed four sets of Flora and Fauna National postage stamps for Ireland and artwork for the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.
