About Making Book Box:

Bookbinding is widely used in Turkish Islamic arts, with many techniques passed down through generations. This course teaches you how to make a book storage box, a functional item for storing books, files, or personal belongings. Creating a book storage box requires attention and patience. Key stages include creating a mold and using various materials like fabric, leather, or paper for covering. Students will witness each step, from mold creation to assembly and covering techniques. No prior knowledge or experience is needed, and participants will quickly achieve successful results.

Learning Objectives:

  • Usage of cardboard and paper.
  • Learning the functions of the materials to be used.
  • Steps for template extraction.
  • Joining and gluing techniques.
  • Preparing to cover the outer surface.
  • Using fabric and leather.
  • Reinforcing and securing the box.
  • Necessary information for protection and storage.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop, students will know how to make their own book storage boxes. They will gain skills in using materials and techniques for shaping the boxes as desired. This knowledge will help them advance in this field.

Students will learn covering techniques and how to use leather and fabric comprehensively. They will be able to design and create book storage boxes in any size for personal use.

Tutor’s Biography: Furkan YOLDAŞ

Furkan Yoldaş was born on February 12, 1995, in Üsküdar. He completed his
primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul. In 2019, he
graduated from Fatih Sultan Mehmet University with a degree in Traditional
Turkish Arts. During his university years, he was introduced to the prominent
figure in the art of bookbinding, the late İslam Seçen, which led him to pursue
bookbinding. Currently he is working as a lecturer at Fatih Sultan Mehmet University and is engaged in manuscript restoration and bookbinding in his own workshop.
