Golden Botanical Patterns Jan – Feb (Online)

You will explore the beautiful art of traditional Islamic ornamentation to create detailed patterns following the traditional methods as seen in historic Quran and manuscripts.

Learning Outcomes:

You will have a small painted pattern showcasing what you learnt in this workshop.

  • Softness of the hand in drawing decorative units and estimating their size theoretically.
  • Knowledge of the technique for determining the edges of the units with a brush easily and with high accuracy.
  • Knowledge of different techniques and methods of classical illumination.

Tutor: Sally Al-Azzawi

Sally Al-Azzawi is a talented Iraqi visual artist and calligrapher, renowned for her mastery of Arabic calligraphy and decorative arts. Her artistic journey began in 2014 at the Institute of Fine Arts, where she honed her skills and developed a deep understanding of the intricate details of linear drawing and ornamentation. She later pursued education at the University of Baghdad, earning a bachelor’s degree from the College of Fine Arts.

Throughout her career, Sally has participated in numerous exhibitions and events, showcasing her unique ability to blend traditional Arabic calligraphy with contemporary artistic expressions. Her work is distinguished by its precision, elegance, and cultural significance, making her a prominent figure in the world of Iraqi fine arts.
