About Different Sewing Techniques:

Bookbinding protects and organizes the pages of a book. Bindings vary by material and decoration. To master bookbinding, basic sewing techniques are crucial. These techniques differ based on the type of book or notebook, affecting durability, shape, cost, and aesthetics.

This course introduces beginners to sewing techniques through hands-on experience. You’ll learn which papers suit each technique, understand the differences between techniques, and explore their application stages.

Learning Objectives:

  • Creating and assembling an orderly arrangement by folding papers in
  • Understanding the nuances of different stitching techniques in the art
  • of bookbinding.
  • Applying stitching techniques suitable for paper forms.
  • Recognizing the types of threads to be used in stitching.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the workshop, students will learn various sewing techniques. They will gain practical knowledge by applying each technique individually. This knowledge will support their progress in the field. Students will thoroughly understand the intricacies of sewing techniques and the stages involved in making the thread stronger and more functional. They will reach a level where they can create their own designed products using sewing techniques in their personal lives.

Certificate: 

  • Please note that you should attend at least 90% of the hours to receive your attendance certificate for this course.

Tutor’s Biography: Furkan YOLDAŞ

Furkan Yoldaş was born on February 12, 1995, in Üsküdar. He completed his
primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul. In 2019, he
graduated from Fatih Sultan Mehmet University with a degree in Traditional
Turkish Arts. During his university years, he was introduced to the prominent
figure in the art of bookbinding, the late İslam Seçen, which led him to pursue
bookbinding. Currently he is working as a lecturer at Fatih Sultan Mehmet University and is engaged in manuscript restoration and bookbinding in his own workshop.
