About Binding With Marbled Paper:

This beginner bookbinding course is open to anyone interested. It is designed for participants with no prior experience or knowledge of bookbinding. This time, we will focus on notebook making using a different technique.

Marbled binding is significant in Islamic art and is used for covers and book cases. In this course, you will learn the basics of notebook making and how to apply marbled papers for binding.

We will move at a slow and simple pace, teaching techniques that can be quickly applied.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gathering and assembling paper blocks.
  • Determining the appropriate thickness of cardboard for the notebook.
  • Applying suitable stitching techniques.
  • Applying appropriate paper to the inside of the cover.
  • Recognizing and implementing marbled paper patterns.
  • Binding techniques and production in Islamic art.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop, students will learn how to bind notebooks with marbled paper. They will gain practical experience and be encouraged to use different papers in the binding process. Students will understand the stages of applying various papers in Islamic bookbinding and be able to create personalized notebooks for personal use.

    • 12 hours of learning – 240 AED
    • 12, 13, 14 May

Certificate: 

  • Please note that you should attend at least 90% of the hours to receive your attendance certificate for this course.

Workshop Location: Al Taif Mall Business Centre, 17th Floor.

 

Tutor’s Biography: Furkan YOLDAŞ

Furkan Yoldaş was born on February 12, 1995, in Üsküdar. He completed his
primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul. In 2019, he
graduated from Fatih Sultan Mehmet University with a degree in Traditional
Turkish Arts. During his university years, he was introduced to the prominent
figure in the art of bookbinding, the late İslam Seçen, which led him to pursue
bookbinding. Currently he is working as a lecturer at Fatih Sultan Mehmet University and is engaged in manuscript restoration and bookbinding in his own workshop.
