Course Overview:

This program offers a comprehensive understanding of Islamic geometry, encompassing its fundamental rules and general principles, while tracing its evolution across various historical periods. The course will focus particularly on the 15th century during the Timurid era in Central Asia, specifically in the region of Uzbekistan. Participants will learn about the various geometric families, the mechanisms of pattern construction, and the common mistakes to avoid. The program will also include a detailed analysis of star rosettes and an in-depth study of geometric families with fourfold, fivefold, and sixfold symmetries.

Instructor’s Biography: Mustafa Sedqi

Mustafa graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in 2007. He has taught approximately 50 workshops, 30 specialised courses, and 11 full-year programs. He established a comprehensive curriculum for the study of Islamic geometric ornamentation and launched a project to revive Islamic art in Cairo. He contributed to the Mamluk Minbars Preservation Project in Cairo, where he was responsible for analysing the Mamluk designs of the documented minbars.

Mustafa published his first book titled: “Islamic Geometry: Rules and Principles“.
