Prepare a gold background – One session only

There are many ways to apply leaf to a surface and a variety of different effects that can be placed on the surface. These include:

• Broken finish with veins and jagged shapes.
• A solid finish with full shine.
• A gilded background finish with paint over the surface.
• Antique and distressed finishes using gold and other metals.

This course explores these areas. Students will be taught how to effectively use gold and other metals to produce a gilded background for a variety of tasks. This could be for artists, furniture restorers, framers and more.

• To understand the different types of metal leaf available and the different ways of applying them.
• How to prepare a surface ready for the application of gilded leaf.
• How to create a variety of different style leaf backgrounds for further work, in art, furniture restoration and creation.
• How to seal and protect the gilded surface once completed.

نتائج التعلم:

The student will have created a sample panel of gilded finishes for flat surfaces.

The student will have explored the different mediums and tools that can be applied to the gilded finish top create different effects.

He student will understand the process of gilding upon a gilded surface in order to create depth and interesting effects.

The student will have an understanding of the different materials that can be used in gilding backgrounds and which ones are suitable for different materials to be gilded upon.

The student will have an introduction to both ancient and modern ways of gilding backgrounds.

نبذة عن المدرب: ريتشارد ووكر

Richard has worked on a wide range of gilding projects including historic ships (HMS Warrior), private interiors, antique furniture for castles and listed monuments. He teaches at a wide range of top colleges, including West Dean College of Arts and Conservation and The Chippendale International School of Furniture. He specializes working with artists and creatives in developing their work using goldleaf and other precious metals.
